旧中国最大的百货公司由侨商经营——永安百货

旧中国侨资经营最大的百货公司是永安百货公司。这个百货公司最初设在澳大利亚的悉尼，称永安果栏（果行）。

1907年它在香港组织公司，1918年又在上海设立公司。

它经营百货，并附设旅馆、酒楼、茶室、游乐乐场及银行储蓄部等。后来，这个百货公司陆续在英、美、日本等国设办庄，采办百货，组织土特产出口。

它还和永安纺织印染公司等共同构成永安集团。

1956年，它在上海的分公司实现公私合营，1966年改为国营企业。

Old China’s Biggest Department Store

Old China’s biggest department store was Wing On Department Store. It was earliest headquatered in Sydney, Australia, named Wing On Fruit Firm. It opened a company in Hong Kong in 1907.

In 1918, it set up it’s Shanghai company with main business of department store. The Shanghai company’s subsidiary business included hotels, restaurants, tea bars, resorts and bank deposit business. Then it had expanded it’s business to UK, USA and Japan, etc. and opened departments in these countries to purchase goods abroad and export China’s national local products. It had become a group corporation merged with Wing On Textile Dyeing and Printing Company.

In 1956, Wing On’s Shanghai Department had been become a joint venture of government and private citizen. Then it was transformed to state-owned company of Republic of China in 1966.
